Elisabeth R. Gerber is the Jack L. Walker Jr. Collegiate Professor of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, with faculty appointments in the Ford School of Public Policy, Department of Political Science, Institute for Social Research, and Center for Academic Innovation. She founded ViewPoint Simulations, directs the Online Master of Public Affairs program, and co-leads the Detroit Metro Area Communities Study. Elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2012, her research examines urban, regional, and metropolitan policy with emphasis on sustainability, transportation, water policy, climate adaptation, and economic development.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She has served on multiple boards including the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan and Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority.
Gerber's recent publications demonstrate strong focus on community-based research methodologies, crisis response in urban settings, and innovative governance approaches. Her work frequently intersects public policy with technology, health equity, and environmental sustainability, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches to complex societal challenges.
