Elisabeth A.C. Mills is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kansas since 2020. Her research focuses on extreme gas environments in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies, utilizing radio, millimeter, and infrared spectroscopy. She leads the Nearby Galaxies Lab and teaches graduate and undergraduate courses.
Education:
- PhD in Astronomy, University of California, Los Angeles (2013)
- BS in Astronomy and Physics, Indiana University (2007)
Her research explores gas physics and chemistry in galaxy centers like NGC 253 and Sgr B2, using ALMA and VLA observations. Recent work includes mapping molecular outflows and studying black hole feeding processes.
Scientific awards include the NSF CAREER award (2024), KU Teacher of the Year (2020), and Jansky Fellowship (2013–2016).
She has advised graduate students Ashley Lieber, Xinyu Mai, and former advisees like Keaton Donaghue (2024). Her group received a $1.1M NSF grant (2022) for galactic studies.
