Elisabete Figueiredo is an Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences, University of Aveiro, Portugal. She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences (University of Aveiro, 2003) and a Habilitation in Sociology (University of Porto, 2020). Her research focuses on rural sociology, environmental sociology, tourism studies, and risk perception. She leads the Tourism & Sustainability (TURS) research group and is a full researcher at GOVCOPP and a collaborator at CESAM, both at the University of Aveiro. She also contributes to CETRAD at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
Her academic journey includes a Sociology degree from ISCTE – IUL (1989). She has coordinated or participated in numerous national and EU-funded projects, such as ShareFOREST (2021–2024) and STRINGS (2018–2022), focusing on rural-urban linkages, sustainable tourism, and participatory governance. Her publications span edited books, journal articles, and book chapters addressing rural development, food tourism, and crisis recovery in Southern Europe.
Current research projects include exploring participatory forest management (ShareFOREST) and co-creating sustainable tourism experiences (TWINE). Her work bridges academia and policy, emphasizing inclusive and resilient territorial development.
