Elisabet Curbelo

Elisabet Curbelo is an Associate Professor in Electroacoustic Composition & Music Theory at the University of Utah. She is director of the University of Utah Electroacoustic Ensemble and co-founder of Artivism4Earth, an initiative merging art and activism for environmental advocacy.

• BA in Piano Pedagogy from Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid
• BA in Composition from Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias

Her research focuses on integrating sensor technology to control electronics through movement and exploring extended vocal techniques rooted in Middle Eastern music traditions. She emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and cultural exchange, particularly through her work in electroacoustic music and cross-disciplinary art forms.

As a composer, Curbelo’s works have been performed internationally in Spain, Turkey, the USA, Germany, Switzerland, and Holland. She has received numerous grants, prizes, and commissions throughout her career, underscoring her influence in contemporary music and technology.

She founded and directs the University of Utah Electroacoustic Ensemble and co-founded Artivism4Earth, a platform for environmental activism through artistic expression.
