Elisa Veronica VERRANDO

Elisa Veronica VERRANDO is a Contract Lecturer in the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where she teaches Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpretation within the Master’s program in Translation and Interpretation. She has been actively involved in teaching and professional interpreting since 2007.

Her research interests focus on the emotional and social dimensions of sign language interpretation, particularly the concept of flexibility in interpreter behavior, as seen in her ongoing personal research on The Flexibility of the Sign Language Interpreter: Emotional and Social Proxemics.

She has taught LIS/Italian interpretation modules at ENS Bergamo and Italian writing at the Siena School for Liberal Arts Summer School since 2022. Her professional experience includes extensive freelance interpreting for public and private institutions across Italy, covering community interpreting, training, and conferences.

She is a member of ANIOS (Italian Association of Sign Language Interpreters), serving on the Lombardy Regional Council and the Professional Profile Committee, and has been engaged in professional mentoring for several years.

She obtained her qualification as an Italian Sign Language interpreter through an Advanced Training course at Ca' Foscari University in 2007 and has been actively contributing to both academic and professional domains in interpreting ever since.
