Elisa J. Blethen serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University. She holds a Doctor of Intercultural Studies (DIS) from Fuller Theological Seminary in California (2018), a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida (2006), and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Adventist University (2000).
Her research focuses on the unique intersection of healthcare finance and administration within mission hospital contexts, particularly examining cross-cultural management practices. Dr. Blethen describes herself as 'dependable, responsible and a team player' with Gallup strengths in Harmony, Responsibility, Empathy, Connectedness, and Arranger.
Her primary scholarly work centers on Malamulo Hospital in Malawi, Africa, where she conducted an internal study on culturally appropriate employee management practices (2017-2018) as Principal Investigator. This research culminated in her 2018 doctoral thesis examining cross-cultural management specifically within this Seventh-Day Adventist mission hospital setting.
Dr. Blethen has presented on healthcare management topics including 'Healthcare Management: Two Perspectives' (SPH Dean's Special Speaker Series, May 2011), 'How to Serve Effectively in the Workplace' (Global HealthCare Conference @ LLU, October 2012), and 'Managing Up' for Intervarsity College staff (January 2017).
