Elisa Heinrich is a Max Weber Fellow in the Department of History at the European University Institute (EUI), where she conducts postdoctoral research at the intersection of gender history, queer history, and disability studies. She is affiliated with the Max Weber Programme for Postdoctoral Studies, a prestigious fellowship supporting early-career scholars in the social sciences and humanities.
Her research focuses on marginalized subjects in historical discourse, particularly through the lens of intimacy, activism, and self-representation. She is currently working on a project examining the knowledge production and activism of people with disabilities in Central Europe from the 1970s to the 1990s. Her prior work includes a critically acclaimed monograph on friendship and homosexuality in German women’s movements around 1900, which has received multiple awards. She is also a co-editor of special issues on political friendship and the history of homosexualities, and co-author of a collaborative biography on radical feminist Kaethe Schirmacher.
