Elisa GAMALERO

Elisa GAMALERO is an Associate Professor at the University of Eastern Piedmont Amedeo Avogadro, Department of Science and Technological Innovation. Her research focuses on microbial ecology in agricultural systems, particularly the role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB), and beneficial microbial consortia in enhancing plant growth, phytoremediation, and sustainable agriculture. She has been involved in projects such as CoolFarmLab, SIMBIOREC, and SCENARIOS, addressing agroecological transitions, bioremediation, and pollution control.

Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDGs related to life on land and responsible consumption. Key research areas include microbial interactions with plants under stress conditions, biofertilizer development from desert soil microbiota, and the application of beneficial microbes to improve crop yield and resilience. GAMALERO’s projects often involve collaborations with institutions like the Ministry of Agriculture and the European Commission, focusing on agroecological practices and soil biodiversity.

Her publications span plant-microbe symbiosis, microbiome modulation, and the use of microbial metabolites against pathogens. She has contributed to studies on melatonin effects on plant microbiota, fungal metabolites against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and biofertilizer resources in Algerian desert soils. GAMALERO also explores the impact of microbial inoculants on tomato and grapevine production, emphasizing sustainable farming techniques and reduced chemical inputs.

Recent projects include developing integrated systems for agroecological transitions (CoolFarmLab) and strategies to eliminate pollutants (SCENARIOS). She collaborates internationally on topics like microbiota analysis in vineyards and the role of microbial communities in plant health. GAMALERO’s research bridges fundamental microbiology with applied agricultural solutions, aiming to enhance ecological resilience and food security.
