Dr. Eline Wærp serves as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nuremberg (CHREN) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where her work critically examines the digitalization of EU air border controls and associated human rights implications through a lens challenging dominant border management discourses.
She earned her PhD in migration studies from Malmö University's Department of Global Political Studies, with doctoral research investigating the European Border and Coast Guard Agency's (Frontex) production of securitized border knowledge.
Her research program centers on:
- Irregularized migration dynamics
- Securitization processes in border governance
- Technological transformations in EU border controls
As an active contributor to the M.A. Human Rights program at FAU, she engages students in critical analysis of displacement, governance frameworks, and human rights protections, leveraging Nuremberg's unique position as a global human rights hub through collaborations with institutions like the International Nuremberg Principles Academy.
