Eline Schotsmans is an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellow at the University of Wollongong (Australia) and an associate researcher at the University of Bordeaux (France). Her research focuses on funerary practices, burial taphonomy, and the intersection of archaeo-anthropology with forensic science. She examines processes like natural mummification and plaster burials, studying their effects on decomposition and bone preservation. Her work integrates experimental methods at facilities like AFTER (Australia) and REST (Canada), alongside forensic casework involving aircraft accidents and mass disasters.
Eline holds a PhD and MSc from the University of Bradford (UK) and has held roles including ERC Marie Curie Fellowships in France and Australia. She has secured prestigious grants such as the ARC DECRA and EU Horizon 2020. Her interdisciplinary expertise spans archaeology, anthropology, and forensic science, with a focus on experimental research and analytical techniques like SEM, Raman spectroscopy, and GC-MS.
