Dr. Elijah Onsomu is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), School of Health Sciences. He holds a PhD in Health Services Research from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an MPH from the Northwest Ohio Consortium for Public Health. His research focuses on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, domestic violence, and high-risk sexual behaviors. He teaches courses in nursing and public health, including Research Methods, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics.
Dr. Onsomu has received several awards, including the SPIRIT Award for Research (2012) and the UNC–CFAR Developmental Award (2012–2014). His work has been published in journals like the Western Journal of Nursing Research and Journal of Interpersonal Violence. He is also a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) and has peer-reviewed for multiple public health journals.
His research employs advanced statistical methods (e.g., multivariate regression, longitudinal analysis) and addresses health disparities in underserved populations. Key areas include mobile health interventions, HIV testing scaling, and domestic violence prevention. Collaborative projects include partnerships with Duke University and the Living Heart Foundation.
