Elif ERHAN

Elif ERHAN is a Professor of Environmental Engineering and Director of the Institute for Sufi Studies at Üsküdar University. She holds a PhD from Atatürk University (2000) and completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Newcastle's School of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on clean technologies, biosensors, and membrane science. She has led projects on biomimetic materials and environmental biotechnology, including studies on nitrite biosensors and wastewater treatment. As a former faculty member at Gebze Technical University (2003–2015), she advanced to her current role in 2015. She has published over 37 peer-reviewed articles and actively contributes to academic governance through roles such as Board Member of the Publications Committee and Advisor to 41–50 students. Her work integrates environmental engineering with innovative materials for sustainable solutions.

Research interests: Her primary areas include biosensor development, membrane technologies, and environmental management systems. She explores applications of nanomaterials (e.g., carbon nanotubes, polymers) and microbial processes for water purification and pollution control. Recent projects emphasize biomimetic materials and Sufi studies interdisciplinary initiatives.

Grants & Projects: She leads international projects like the Comprehensive Study of Sufism (2024) and TÜBİTAK-funded research on biomimetic membranes and enzymatic fuel cells. She has collaborated on membrane fouling reduction and bioreactor optimization for NOx removal.

Labs/Teams: Directs the Institute for Sufi Studies, merging environmental technology with cultural research. Her research group develops biosensors and sustainable materials, published in journals like Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry and Biosensors and Bioelectronics.
