Eleni Sakellariou is an Associate Professor of History of the Medieval West at the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Crete. She has held academic positions since 1999, including at the University of Ioannina (1999–2006) and visiting roles at the University of Sassari (2016) and University of Naples (2019). Her research focuses on Medieval Mediterranean studies, with emphasis on Southern Italy, economic and social transitions, and archival analysis.

Her work explores demographic changes, institutional evolution, and trade dynamics in the Mediterranean. She has contributed to understanding rural societies, notarial systems, and micro-loans in pre-modern economies. A key focus is the Italian presence in Greece post-Fourth Crusade and the role of collective biography in historical research.
Recent publications include studies on Venetian Crete notaries, Korčula's rural communities, and fiscal systems in Aragonese Naples. She has published in multiple languages, including English, Italian, and Greek, and participated in international research projects. Awards include fellowships from the British Academy and Royal Historical Society.
Her archival expertise spans the State Archives of Naples, General Archive of Simancas, and British Library, supporting her analysis of notarial records and economic practices. She has no part-time status and remains an active faculty member.
