Eleni Alexandratou

Eleni Alexandratou serves as a Lecturer at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, within the Division of Electromagnetics, Electrooptics and Electronic Materials and the Laboratory of Biomedical Optics and Applied Biophysics since 2014. Her academic career spans over 25 years with continuous contributions to biomedical optics and biophysics research.

Her educational credentials include:

• B.S. in Physics from the University of Athens (1995)
• Ph.D. from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computing, National Technical University of Athens (2003)

Her research program centers on Biophotonics, with emphasis on real-time optical manipulation of living cells and tissues, photodynamic cancer therapy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. She develops advanced image processing techniques for medical diagnostics, particularly in cancer prognosis systems through bionanotechnology and cellular engineering approaches.

Her distinguished contributions have earned recognition through:

• Prize of Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation (2002) for Bioengineering work in Confocal Microscopy
• Empirikos Foundation honor and prize (1999)
• D. Thomaidou Prize for Best NTUA PhD Thesis (2003)

Award-winning educator teaching core biomedical engineering courses including Introduction to Biophotonics, Measurement and Control in Biomedical Engineering, Principles of Biomedical Instrumentation, and graduate-level Fundamentals of Biophotonics. Her research stems from the Pythagoras project on Optical Imaging for Cancer Diagnosis and maintains active collaborations with medical institutions including the Onassis Cardiosurgery Center and University of Athens Pathological Anatomy Laboratory.
