Elena Violaris is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow and Early Career Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Faculty of English Language & Literature. Her research focuses on postmodern theory, semiotics, and literary analysis, with particular attention to cultural studies and modernist literature. She explores themes such as simulation theory, consumerism, and the intersection of digital culture with traditional literary forms.
Her work engages with authors like Jean Baudrillard, James Joyce, and David Foster Wallace, analyzing texts through lenses of critical theory, cognitive studies, and symbolic exchange. Recent publications investigate topics ranging from Shakespearean tragedy to emoji semiotics and the confectionery industry's cultural significance.
