Elena Tarasheva is an Associate Professor at New Bulgarian University's Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures. She holds a PhD in Mathematical Linguistics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2006) and a postgraduate qualification in Anthropological Methods in Foreign Language Education from the University of Strathclyde (1996). Her academic work focuses on discourse analysis, media studies, and applied linguistics.
Research Interests: Tarasheva specializes in critical discourse analysis of political and media texts, corpus linguistics methodologies, and intercultural communication. Her work examines parliamentary discourse, media representations of national identity, and the role of Eastern European researchers in international academic discourse. She integrates media analysis into language pedagogy and explores computational approaches to textual analysis.
Publication Trends: Her recent articles (2011-2017) predominantly analyze political discourse through corpus linguistics methods, with focuses on Bulgarian parliamentary proceedings, populist rhetoric, and media representations of Eastern Europe. Earlier work (2007-2010) established foundations in text structure analysis and language teaching methodologies.
Teaching: Current courses include Introduction to Media Studies, Analysis of Media Discourse, and English Phonetics and Phonology. She has developed intercultural communication teaching materials for the British Council.
