Elena Popova is a Doctoral Research Fellow in Quaternary Geology at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo, Norway. She holds a B.Sc. in Geoecology and Nature Management (2013–2017) and an M.Sc. in Polar and Marine Sciences from the Russian-German Master Program POMOR (2017–2019). Her research focuses on marine sediments, particularly in the Arctic Ocean, and reconstructing paleoenvironmental conditions through sediment composition analysis, including grain size studies and coarse fraction petrography. She previously worked as an engineer/researcher at the All Russian Research Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean (2019–2024).
- Current Position: Ph.D. Research Fellow (2025–present)
- Education: B.Sc., Saint Petersburg State University; M.Sc., Saint Petersburg State University & Universität Hamburg
Her research interests span sedimentology, quick clay deposits, and environmental geosciences. She has contributed to studies on riverine and lacustrine sediment pollution and geochemistry, transitioning to Arctic marine environments. Her work bridges geological archives with environmental history, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
Affiliations include the Section for Environmental Geosciences and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo.
