Elena Oliva is a Fixed-term Researcher in tenure track (RTT) in Musicology and History of Music at Link Campus University in Rome. She holds a Ph.D. in History of the Arts and Entertainment from the University of Florence, where her dissertation on French operetta in post-unification Italy earned the De Sono Prize 2020. Previously, she served as a research fellow at the University of Florence’s Department of History, Archaeology, Geography, Art and Performing Arts (SAGAS) and as an adjunct professor of Musicology in the Primary Education program.

Her research focuses on musical theater history, music’s relationship with urban spaces, and digital musicology. She has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and authored the monograph L’operetta parigina a Milano, Firenze e Napoli (1860-1890) (2020). She has participated in major national projects such as Progetto Raphael, BaDaCriM, and MML, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research. She is a member of the scientific committee for the “Percorsi” series of the Italian Society of Musicology.
Awards: Arthur Rubinstein prize (2021, young musicologists), De Sono Prize (2020).
Grants & Projects: Involved in PRIN-funded initiatives like ArtMus and MML. Current research includes the WIM project on women in music history.
Outreach: Designed and led the radio series Boulevard Europa on French operetta history, broadcast in May 2024 on Swiss Radio and Television’s Rete Due.
