Elena Mattevi

Elena Mattevi is a tenure-track Researcher (Ricercatrice TD) in Criminal Law at the University of Trento's Faculty of Law, affiliated with the Department of Legal Sciences. She obtained her National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as an Associate Professor in 2023. Her academic journey includes a Law Degree (110/110 cum laude) from the University of Trento and a PhD in Comparative and European Legal Studies focusing on restorative justice.

Her research explores criminal law intersections with restorative justice, victim protection, and judicial reforms. Key interests include: prison law, juvenile justice, immigration law, and economic offenses. She coordinates the Observatory on Justice of the Peace and Restorative Justice, and serves on editorial boards of several legal journals.

Recent publications demonstrate concentrated scholarship on restorative justice reforms, justice of the peace systems, and criminal procedure innovations. Her work critically examines legislative changes like the Cartabia Reform and explores victim-offender mediation frameworks in both Italian and European contexts.

She teaches criminal law across multiple departments and leads specialized courses in alternative dispute resolution. As a principal investigator, she directs projects including the Euregio Mobility Fund's Exploring Restorative Justice Models (ReJust). Additional activities include training judges and mediators, and membership in the Academy 'Law and Migration' (ADiM).

As a legal practitioner, she's admitted to the Supreme Court bar and serves as a civil mediator. She regularly contributes to judicial training programs and public sector workshops on criminal liability and ethical compliance.
