Elena HogenEsch

Elena HogenEsch, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. She serves as faculty in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Fellowship program and maintains clinical practice focused on complex fertility cases and reproductive endocrinology. Her work bridges clinical care, research, and education within UCSF's academic medical center environment.

Dr. HogenEsch received her BS in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University College of Arts and Sciences in 2014, followed by an MD from Emory University School of Medicine in 2020. She also earned an MS in Clinical Research from Emory University Laney Graduate School in 2020. She completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at McGaw Medical Center, Northwestern University in 2024.

Her research primarily focuses on recurrent pregnancy loss, endometrial pathology, fertility preservation, and improving access to fertility care. She has developed a strong research program examining the intersection of uterine microbiome, chronic endometritis, and reproductive outcomes.
