Elena Allegri

Elena Allegri is an Associate Professor at the University of Eastern Piedmont, Department of Law and Political, Economic and Social Studies (DIGSPES). She is based in Alessandria at Corso Borsalino 44, where she maintains her office in studio n. 3. Her academic focus centers on social work theory, practice, and education, with particular emphasis on critical approaches to social work practice.

Her research interests include:

• Anti-oppressive social work practice and education
• Social work with migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers
• Ageism, prejudice, and discriminatory behaviors in aging societies
• Sociology of migration and integration
• Critical perspectives on domestic violence
• Service user involvement in social work education

Professor Allegri's recent scholarly work demonstrates a strong commitment to addressing social inequalities through critical social work practice. Her publications reflect engagement with contemporary challenges in social work, particularly around migration, aging societies, and anti-oppressive approaches. She has been actively involved in multiple research projects examining how social workers can effectively address oppression and discrimination in their practice.

Her current research projects include:

• "Age-It: Ageing individuals in an ageing society" (2023-2025) where she coordinates Task 1.4 on ageism and discriminatory behaviors
• "Social work and sustainable local development in Italy: towards eco-social work?" (ECOSOW, 2023-2025) where she serves as Vice P.I. and coordinates the local research unit
• Research on anti-oppressive social work practices in Italy (2020-2022)
• Transnational research on social work with migrants and refugees in North Greece and South Italy (2020-2021)

Professor Allegri has maintained a consistent teaching presence since at least 2012, offering courses including Theories, Methods and Techniques of Social Service II, Principles and Foundations of Social Service, Critical Social Work, and Sociology of Migration. She teaches primarily at the Asti location of the University of Eastern Piedmont.
