Eleanor O Leary

Eleanor O'Leary is a Lecturer in the Department of Sports, Media, and Marketing at South East Technological University. Her research focuses on media studies, digital media, popular culture, youth culture, and sustainability. She holds a PhD in Media Studies (2014), an MA in History of the Family from the University of Limerick (2007), and a BA in Media Studies from Ulster University (2002).

Her work engages with identity politics on platforms like TikTok, mediated experiences during the pandemic, and historical analyses of Irish cultural narratives. Eleanor has received awards such as the Charlemont Grant (2020) and the National Forum for Teaching and Learning Teaching Hero (2016). She actively supervises PhD students in areas like media and digital culture.

Her research outputs include studies on post-Celtic Tiger reality TV, Zoom-mediated domesticity during the pandemic, and the role of broadcasting in Irish emigration narratives. She collaborates on projects examining youth culture and material history, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and sustainability.
