Dr Elaine Rabbitt is a social historian and Lecturer in the Graduate Certificate of Aboriginal Studies at the University of Notre Dame Australia, affiliated with the Nulungu Research Institute. She holds a PhD in Aboriginal and Intercultural Studies and Oral History. With decades of experience, she has focused on documenting community histories through oral narratives, collaborating with institutions like the National Library of Australia, AIATSIS, and the National Film and Sound Archives. Her work emphasizes reciprocity with Indigenous communities and has been recognized through awards such as the 2021 Oral History Australia Media Award for her contributions to the Anne St Reserve Oral History project.
Elaine has taught at ECU’s Kurongkurl Katitjin Centre and developed nationally accredited curricula for community history documentation. She is actively involved in the Broome community, serving as President of the Broome Historical Society and Museum for over a decade. Her teaching spans locations including Broome, Fremantle, Sydney, and online.
