Elaine McDonald

Dr Elaine McDonald is a Lecturer in DCU's School of Policy and Practice with expertise in history of women's education and teacher development. Her research examines Loreto education history, Mary Ward's educational philosophy, and student teacher experiences in school placements.

• Historical development of women's education in Ireland
• Mary Ward's pedagogical legacy
• Teacher identity formation
• Innovative school placement assessment

Recipient of 2021 President's Award for Teaching Excellence. Currently investigates student teachers' sense of belonging in school communities through collaborative research projects.
