Elaina Sutley serves as Associate Dean for Impact & Belonging and Associate Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental & Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas School of Engineering. She additionally directs the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program, focusing on cultivating inclusive leadership among engineering students.
Her academic work centers on civil, environmental, and architectural engineering with strong emphasis on engineering education reform and creating equitable pathways in STEM. Dr. Sutley's leadership initiatives specifically address systemic barriers through the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program, which integrates scholarship support with leadership training to develop socially conscious engineers.
As Program Director, she oversees comprehensive student development initiatives including the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows Program's scholarship system, leadership curriculum, and industry partnership networks. Her administrative role as Associate Dean for Impact & Belonging drives campus-wide strategies for inclusive excellence across engineering disciplines.
Dr. Sutley maintains active engagement with student organizations through the Engineering Student Council and Graduate Engineering Ambassadors, while her office in Eaton Hall serves as central hub for diversity initiatives, program management, and student mentorship within the School of Engineering.
