Eilidh Beaton is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Aberdeen's School of Divinity, History, Philosophy & Art History. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania (2020) and has held postdoctoral positions at Perry World House (University of Pennsylvania), LSE, and King's College London. Her research primarily addresses normative questions in political philosophy, particularly concerning migration ethics, refugee rights, and global justice frameworks.
Beaton's work critically examines conventional definitions of refugeehood in international law, advocating for expanded protections for internally displaced persons and stronger family reunification rights. Her publications engage with ethical dilemmas in migration policy, nationalism during crises, and the rights of long-settled immigrants. Methodologically, she bridges analytical philosophy with practical policy concerns.
She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in political philosophy, global justice, and applied ethics. As an active member of the Normative Theory of Immigration Working Group, she contributes to scholarly debates at the intersection of philosophy, law, and migration policy. Her research has been recognized with the IVR Young Scholar Prize (2019) for innovative work in legal philosophy.
