Eileen Kröber

Eileen Kröber is a Research Fellow leading the Emmy Noether Junior Research Group for Organosulfur Cycling at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany. She holds a PhD from the University of Warwick (2016) and previously conducted PostDoc research at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and the Max Planck Institute. Her research focuses on organic sulfur compounds in marine ecosystems, particularly their roles in symbiotic relationships between bacteria and marine organisms, and their impact on climate regulation. Key habitats include seagrass beds, mangroves, and coral reefs.

Her group investigates how these sulfur compounds contribute to energy and nutrient exchange in symbiotic systems, using advanced methods such as meta-omics (transcriptomics, proteomics) and controlled lab experiments. Collaborative projects involve partners from institutions like the University of Warwick, University of East Anglia, and University of Vienna.

She secured a prestigious DFG Emmy Noether Fellowship (2023), funding her team of four doctoral researchers for six years. Her work addresses critical gaps in understanding sulfur cycling's ecological and climatic implications, with potential applications in mitigating climate change through microbial symbiosis.
