Perlove's research critically examines theater's capacity to drive sociopolitical transformation in the United States, specifically targeting systemic restructuring of industry infrastructure—from rehearsal spaces to executive leadership—to empower marginalized theater-makers. Her work intersects arts activism with practical business frameworks, addressing barriers to entry for oppressed groups while developing equitable pathways for cultural production. She investigates how funding models, organizational hierarchies, and creative processes can be redesigned to center justice and inclusion.
Her professional recognition includes:
- Emerging Scholar Award at the Nineteenth International Conference on the Arts in Society (May 2024)
Perlove actively shapes cultural policy as an inaugural member of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs' Cultural Development Fund Panel Advisory Committee, working to reform funding equity. She serves as a panelist for major granting bodies including the New York State Council on the Arts and A.R.T./NY, while designing educational initiatives like her "Grants 101 and 102" workshops that demystify funding access for emerging artists. Her conference productions such as "Everything They Didn’t Teach You in Theater School" bridge academic theory with industry practice.
