Eghosa Ekhator serves as Associate Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Chester's College of Business, Law and Social Sciences. His scholarly work bridges legal theory and practical environmental governance with a pronounced focus on Global South contexts, particularly Nigeria and Africa.
His research portfolio centers on Environmental Justice, International Environmental Law, and the critical intersection of Human Rights with Taxation for sustainable development. Key investigations include climate justice frameworks for multinational operations in Africa, the role of customary systems in modern dispute resolution, and equity-centered environmental policy design. Recent work demonstrates increasing emphasis on co-produced governance models that integrate community voices into legal frameworks.
Analysis of his 2023-2025 publications reveals three dominant trajectories: (1) Environmental justice mechanisms for the UK and Global South, (2) Taxation-human rights synergies in development finance, and (3) Climate litigation strategies against corporate actors in Africa. These works consistently advocate for rights-based approaches to environmental governance while exposing implementation gaps in international treaties.
Collaborative research with Davies, Ross, and White produced the influential 2024 Inclusive Environments framework, applying equality impact assessments to environmental justice through community co-production. His edited volume Taxation, Human Rights and Sustainable Development (2025) establishes foundational connections between fiscal policy and human rights accountability in developing economies.
