معرفی
Edwin P. Maurer is a Professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering at Santa Clara University's School of Engineering. His academic career spans over two decades with progressive appointments from Assistant Professor (2003-2009) to Associate Professor (2009-2015) and currently Professor (2015-present). He also previously served as an Adjunct Professor at Seattle University and conducted research at the University of Washington.
Education:
- Ph.D. Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Washington, 2002
- M.S. Civil Engineering (Water Resources), University of California, Berkeley, 1989
- B.S. Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Rhode Island, 1985
Maurer's research focuses on Climate Change and its Impacts on Water Resources across the Western U.S., Central and South America, with specialization in Statistical Downscaling - the methodology for translating global climate model outputs into locally relevant climate impact assessments. His work bridges climate science and practical water resource management, addressing critical issues like drought prediction, flood frequency analysis, and stream temperature changes affecting aquatic ecosystems. His teaching portfolio includes foundational engineering courses like Statics alongside specialized water resources courses covering groundwater hydrology, GIS applications, and sustainable water management.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on regional climate impacts, particularly in Central America and the Western United States, with increasing emphasis on practical applications for water resource managers and policymakers. His work frequently addresses methodological challenges in climate downscaling while maintaining strong connections to real-world water management problems.
Scientific Recognition:
- Santa Clara University Award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship (2021)
- Santa Clara University Award for Recent Achievement in Scholarship (2013)
- Robert W. Peters Endowed Professor (2012-present)
- Fulbright Visiting Scholar, Chile (2011)
- Google Science Communication Fellow (2011)
- School of Engineering Researcher of the Year (2009)
- Packard Faculty Fellowship (2004-06)
- NASA Earth System Science Fellowship (1999-2001)
Maurer has secured significant research funding for climate impact studies, collaborating with major institutions including NASA and the California Energy Commission. His work has practical applications in water resource planning and adaptation to climate change, particularly through the development of tools that translate complex climate data into actionable information for decision-makers. He has presented his research extensively at major climate science conferences and has engaged with international partners, particularly in Chile where he served as a Fulbright Scholar.
