Edwin Leung

Edwin Leung is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick, where he joined in September 2023. His expertise spans environmental science, with a focus on climate change, water treatment, and waste management.

Leung's research integrates environmental engineering with biotechnology, particularly in wastewater treatment using algal-bioreactor systems and the pharmaceutical potential of algal bioproducts. His work addresses sustainable solutions for pollution and resource recovery.

Recent publications highlight his contributions to nanomaterial-enhanced wastewater treatment and the application of algae-derived compounds in medicine. At Warwick, he teaches interdisciplinary courses linking science to sustainable development.

Prior to relocating to the UK, Leung worked in Hong Kong's civil service, specializing in environmental and food safety regulation, while lecturing at a university and vocational institute on topics including foundation biology and occupational health.
