Edward W. Muir is a Professor of History and Italian at Northwestern University, holding the Clarence L. Ver Steeg Professorship in the Arts and Sciences and the Charles Deering McCormick Professorship of Teaching Excellence since 2006. He has previously served as Professor of History at Louisiana State University (1992-93), Associate Professor of History there (1986-92), and in progressive academic roles at Syracuse University (1977-1986) and Stockton State College (1973-1977). His interdisciplinary scholarship bridges European history, Renaissance studies, and Italian cultural history.
