Edward Taub is an Emeritus Faculty and University Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He is the founding director of the CI Therapy Research Group. His research focuses on behavioral neuroscience, neurorehabilitation, and neural plasticity, particularly through the development of Constraint-Induced Movement (CI) therapy for neurological injuries.
- Education: B.A., Brooklyn College; M.A., Columbia University; Ph.D., New York University (1970).
His work has produced over 700 publications and revolutionized stroke and brain injury rehabilitation. CI therapy has been validated in multi-center clinical trials and is applied to stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and aphasia. His lab uses imaging techniques like VBM, DTI, and MRS to study brain plasticity. Ongoing research includes pediatric cerebral palsy, MS, and assistive technologies for tetraplegic patients.
Awards: Nine national society awards, Society of Neuroscience recognition, and leadership roles in AAAS and the Biofeedback Society of America. His students average two senior-authored papers and multiple presentations.
