Edward McCarthy

Edward McCarthy is a Senior Lecturer in Composites Design and Testing at the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering, where he leads the FASTBLADE Fatigue Test Facility at Rosyth. He directs research on composite materials for marine renewable energy applications.

His work centers on tidal turbine blade design, composite fatigue testing methodologies, and thermoplastic processing techniques. Current projects include MAXBLADE (EU Horizon 2020) for next-generation tidal generators and thermoplastic resin transfer molding innovations.

McCarthy's publications emphasize experimental mechanics of composites, damage detection, and sustainable marine energy infrastructure. Recent work includes blade testing protocols and novel non-destructive evaluation techniques.
