Edward Dawson is an Assistant Professor in the German Department at Hunter College, City University of New York. He earned his PhD in German from Vanderbilt University, an MA from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from Davidson College. Prior to joining Hunter in 2024, he taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Maryland, with academic experiences in Würzburg, Vienna, Wiesbaden, and Berlin.
His research spans German and Austrian literature from the 19th century to the present, focusing on environmental humanities and sound studies. His publications address Austrian rap music, multilingualism in German studies, intersections of environmental and digital humanities, and Christoph Ransmayr’s contributions to Anthropocene narratives. He is currently translating early works by Felix Salten, the author of Bambi.
