Eduardo Rey Tristán is a Professor of Latin American History at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), affiliated with the Department of History within the Faculty of Geography and History. He holds a PhD from USC (2002) with a thesis on the Uruguayan Revolutionary Left (1955-1973), supervised by Dr. Pilar Cagiao Vila and Dr. Xosé M. Núñez Seixas. Previously, he earned a Master's degree at the International University of Andalusia (1999) and an undergraduate degree at Complutense University of Madrid (1996).
His research focuses on political violence in Latin America, transnational revolutionary networks, and the historical memory of conflicts. He leads the HistAmérica research group, producing over a dozen doctoral theses and international collaborations. Current projects include studies on Tricontinentalism in the 1960s and comparative analyses of revolutionary violence in Latin America and Europe.
Rey Tristán has held visiting professorships at universities in Spain, Italy, France, Mexico, and Central America. His work spans over 100 publications, emphasizing transnational dimensions of revolutionary movements, Cold War dynamics, and the interplay between ideology and political action. He also contributes to oral archival projects on El Salvador’s civil war and curates historical collections at USC’s Biblioteca América.
