Dr. Eduardo Pérez Roth is a Lecturer in Microbiology at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Genetics, University of La Laguna. He leads the Clinical and Molecular Microbiology research group, focusing on antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antimicrobial drug discovery. His work at BioLab involves identifying pharmacologically active molecules through antimicrobial activity assays.
Dr. Pérez-Roth earned his PhD in Microbiology (2006) and conducted postdoctoral research at the Instituto Universitario Biosanitario de Gran Canaria (IUBO-AG). His career spans over 15 years, with over 30 publications in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases journals. He has contributed to national and international research projects, including studies on MRSA transmission in livestock and hospital settings, molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance, and novel antimicrobial compound development.
His research interests emphasize molecular mechanisms of bacterial resistance, clinical microbiology diagnostics, and translational research in drug discovery. Key areas include plasmid-mediated resistance, endotoxin neutralization strategies, and characterization of emerging pathogenic Candida species.
Dr. Pérez-Roth has collaborated with multiple institutions and participated in international research stays. His work bridges laboratory research with clinical applications, particularly in addressing healthcare-associated infections and zoonotic pathogen threats.
