Eduardo Costa

Eduardo Costa is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP-Porto), leading the Bioactives and Bioproducts research group. He holds a PhD in Biotechnology from UCP and has been awarded contracts through the Scientific Employment Stimulation Contest to advance his research. His work focuses on green biotechnology solutions for biomedical, cosmeceutical, and nutraceutical industries, emphasizing agro-food byproduct valorization, bioactive compound characterization, and nanotechnology-based delivery systems.

Research Interests: Eduardo’s research spans three core areas: (1) Circular economy valorization of agro-food byproducts, (2) biological potential of compounds targeting antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory effects, and (3) nanotechnological delivery systems. His work bridges industrial collaboration and academic innovation, resulting in 4 patents (2 granted) and 7 industry-university projects.

Recent Research Trends: Articles emphasize antimicrobial peptides for dermatitis, sustainable materials (e.g., carboxymethyl cellulose), and chitosan nanoparticle applications. His 2023 work highlights bioactive peptides from yeast waste and anti-obesity avocado oil studies.
