Eduardo Cadava is a distinguished academic and theorist holding dual professorships: Professor of Philosophy at The European Graduate School / EGS and Professor in the Department of English at Princeton University. His affiliations at Princeton extend to roles as an Associate Member in Comparative Literature, Spanish and Portuguese, the School of Architecture, and multiple interdisciplinary programs such as Media and Modernity and European Cultural Studies. He previously served as Head of Wilson College (2009–2017) and curated several lecture series, including the Edward W. Said Memorial Lectures.
His research integrates American literature, political theory, media technologies, and the ethics of memory. Cadava explores themes like democracy, war, race, and human rights through interdisciplinary lenses. His work bridges literature, philosophy, and visual arts, engaging with figures like Emerson, Derrida, and Kafka. He co-directs the Conflict Shorelines project, investigating climate change and geopolitical conflict through fieldwork in Amazonia, the Negev, and the Arctic.
Cadava’s authored books include Words of Light, Emerson and the Climates of History, and Paper Graveyards, alongside co-edited volumes on human rights and media theory. His curatorial work spans exhibitions at institutions like MAXXI Museum and the Princeton University Art Museum. Current projects include Of Mourning and Politics and a study on music and writing technologies.
