Dr. Eduard Schesler is a Postdoc in the Group on Topology and Geometric Group Theory at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, under the guidance of Roman Sauer. He previously held positions at institutions such as Fudan University, Erwin-Schrödinger Institute, and FernUniversität Hagen.
- PhD (2020), Universität Bielefeld (advisor: Stefan Witzel)
- Master’s (2016) and Bachelor (2014), HHU Düsseldorf (advisor: Oleg Bogopolski)
His research focuses on geometric group theory, particularly groups acting on Euclidean buildings, hyperbolic spaces, and rooted trees. Key interests include finiteness properties, amenability, hyperbolicity, profinite completions, and asymptotic geometric/probabilistic behavior.
Recent publications explore topics like sigma-invariants, just-infinite groups, and fibering of commutator subgroups in right-angled Coxeter groups. He received the Editors' Choice Award (2023) for his paper in Archiv der Mathematik.
He has taught courses including Mathematik II (2025) and authored a 543-page Group Theory textbook with Steffen Kionke. He co-organized mathematical events like the Math Academy for children in Düsseldorf (2016–2017).
