Edoardo Boria

Edoardo Boria is a Full Professor of Political and Economic Geography at the Department of Political Science, Sapienza University of Rome, where he has held academic positions since 2001. He earned his PhD in International Relations: Geopolitics and Geoeconomics from Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and holds a Laurea in Political Science and Statistics from Sapienza. His academic roles include teaching courses such as Geopolitical Analysis Methodology, Geopolitical Theories and History, and Geography and Power Representation in master's programs in International Relations and Territorial Management.

His research centers on the theoretical and epistemological foundations of geopolitics, the political and social dimensions of cartographic representation, the history of geopolitical thought (including Ratzel and Haushofer), GIS and digital mapping tools, European integration, and the transformation of spatial concepts through telecommunications. He is particularly known for his critical approach to traditional geopolitical narratives and his exploration of how maps shape political perception.

Boria’s recent publications span books, journal articles, and editorial work, with a strong focus on how visual and cartographic media influence geopolitical discourse. His work reflects a transdisciplinary approach, combining geography, political science, history, and media studies. He has been recognized with the prestigious Cátedra Halford Mackinder de Geopolítica e Geoestratégia (2018) and research excellence awards from Sapienza University.
