Dr. Edna Brown is an Associate Professor at the University of Connecticut in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. With a joint doctorate in Developmental Psychology and Social Work from the University of Michigan, she employs an interdisciplinary framework to study how stressful life transitions affect health and wellbeing in middle and later adulthood, particularly among Black Americans. Her work emphasizes social contexts (e.g., gender, social class, family configurations) and cultural contexts (e.g., race, ethnicity, religion), integrating life course theories to address health disparities through interventions.
