Edmund Kizik is a Professor at the Institute of History, Faculty of History at the University of Gdańsk, where he has been affiliated since 1986. He serves as the Head of the Department of Modern History. Additionally, since 2005, he has held a professorship at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). His academic career includes earning his Mgr degree in 1984, doctorate in 1992 under Professor Stanisław Gierszewski, habilitation in 1998, and receiving his professorship title in 2005.
Professor Kizik's research focuses on the social history of Gdańsk and Royal Prussia, German-Polish relations from the 16th century to contemporary times, the history of everyday life, and historical iconography. His extensive scholarly work explores cultural history, material culture, and the social dynamics of urban communities in the Baltic region. His research often examines religious minorities, urban development, and cultural exchanges in the historical context of Gdańsk and surrounding regions.
Kizik has maintained a prolific publication record spanning several decades, with numerous books, edited volumes, and scholarly articles. His most recent work (2022-2025) continues his exploration of Gdańsk's social history, with particular attention to material culture, religious communities, urban representation, and everyday life in early modern Europe. His publications demonstrate consistent engagement with interdisciplinary approaches that bridge history, art history, and social sciences.
Professor Kizik has maintained regular consultation hours for students, currently meeting on Fridays from 13:00-15:00. He has frequently collaborated with scholars including Camilla Badstübner-Kizik on linguistic and cultural studies related to Gdańsk's history.
