Edith Irene Ching

Edith Irene Ching is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies. She previously served as a librarian at St. Albans School for Boys (17 years) and Washington Latin Public Charter School (2 years). Her professional roles include participation on the Newbery, Caldecott, and Notable Children’s Book Committees for the American Library Association. She actively reviews picture books for Booklist Magazine and provides regular presentations to Montgomery County School Librarians on children’s literature.

Her research and focus areas emphasize Accessibility and Inclusive Design, Information Justice, and Youth Digital Practices. She has presented at conferences on leveraging picture books for older readers, fostering reading engagement among boys, and integrating storytelling in education.

Ms. Ching champions racial and social justice through professional initiatives and volunteers at the Washington National Cathedral’s programming committee. She previously served as president of the Washington Children’s Book Guild and the Metropolitan Independent Librarian’s Association.
