Edith Barrett

Edith Barrett is a Professor of Public Policy at the University of Connecticut (UConn), holding concurrent roles as CLAS Associate Dean and Program Director for Urban and Community Studies. Her work focuses on urban policy, youth engagement, and socio-economic development. She explores how marginalized voices, particularly urban youth, influence education and housing policies. Recent research includes qualitative studies on student perspectives in education reform and the impact of digital media on political participation among adolescents.

Her scholarly contributions span urban sociology, public policy analysis, and child welfare. Notable projects include investigating the effects of public housing demolition on children and advocating for inclusive policy frameworks that center marginalized communities. Barrett’s interdisciplinary approach bridges theoretical research with actionable recommendations for equitable urban development.
