معرفی
Professor Edgar Kramer is a leading academic in neurodegenerative diseases at the Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Plymouth, UK. He holds the position of Professor of Neurodegenerative Diseases and contributes significantly to both research and teaching in molecular neuroscience, with a focus on Parkinson’s disease and related disorders.
His research interests center on the molecular and genetic underpinnings of neurodegeneration, particularly involving dopaminergic neurons, ubiquitin ligases (e.g., NEDD4), GDNF/RET signaling, and glutamate transporters. These themes are reflected in his extensive publication record and collaborative research efforts.
The recent publications highlight a consistent trajectory in understanding molecular pathways in Parkinson’s disease, including protein degradation mechanisms, neurotrophic support, and behavioral correlates of dopaminergic dysfunction. His work bridges basic science and clinical applications, particularly in evaluating potential therapeutic strategies.
Professor Kramer serves on the editorial boards of key journals such as Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, Neural Regeneration Research, Mental Health and Addiction Research, and ScienceMatters, and is a reviewer for the Open Journal of Parkinson’s Disease and Treatment.
He is actively involved in teaching, serving as pathway/module lead for the MSc Biomedical Sciences in Clinical Neuroscience (IBMS approved 2022), teaching modules such as Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, Contemporary Applications in Neurobiology, and project supervision. At the undergraduate level, he teaches courses on the Biology of Disease, Systems Physiological Function, Current Issues in Neurobiology, and Personal Research Projects.
His affiliations and research contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to good health and well-being. He supervises student theses and collaborates widely across international research networks.
