Edgar Silva is a Researcher at the Center for Religious History Studies (CEHR) at the Catholic University of Portugal. He earned his PhD in Contemporary History from the same institution in 2023 through the Inter-University Doctoral Programme in History (PIUDHIST), a consortium of five Portuguese universities. His doctoral research examined the transition from social Catholicism to political commitment in Portugal between 1965-1976.
His research focuses on religious history, social Catholicism, political transformations, and post-war Portuguese history. Silva explores intersections between religious movements and sociopolitical changes, particularly during Portugal's democratic transition period. His work frequently examines Catholic engagement with revolutionary movements and human rights advocacy.
Silva's publications center on 20th-century Portuguese history, analyzing themes like political transitions, church archives, and human rights organizations. His most recent edited book examines continuities and ruptures following Portugal's 1974 Carnation Revolution.
He is currently involved in multiple research projects including 'April 25: permanences, ruptures and recompositions' (2021-2026) and the CEHR's multi-year research program (2020-2025). Silva regularly participates in academic events disseminating historical research throughout Portugal.
