Ed Smith is a Professor of painting and drawing at Louisiana State University's College of Art & Design, holding the Emogene Pliner Professor title. He received his BFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his MFA from Brooklyn College. His work focuses on the intersection of nature and human impact, inspired by Louisiana's landscape and environmental themes.

Research interests include environmental concerns, wildlife-industry dynamics, and the visual representation of ecological clashes. He is represented by Soren Christiansen Gallery (New Orleans) and Erdreich White Fine Art (Boston).
Ed's career includes a decade at Queens College, NY, and early involvement with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. His work often critiques environmental degradation through a blend of natural and industrial imagery.
