معرفی
Dr. Ed Hollox is a Professor in the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester, where he has been since 2006. His research focuses on human genetics, particularly the role of structural variation in disease, including β-defensin genes, Fc gamma receptors, and the genomic architecture of immune-related traits. He is also actively involved in postgraduate supervision and outreach activities, such as serving as a scientific advisor for the ITV drama Code of a Killer (2015), which highlighted DNA fingerprinting technology.
His research interests center on understanding how genetic variation—such as copy number variations and structural polymorphisms—affects immunity, disease susceptibility, and human evolution. He has explored topics like the evolutionary pressures shaping immune genes (e.g., DMBT1, glycophorins) and their impact on malaria resistance or autoimmune conditions. Recent work also delves into clonal architecture in mesothelioma tumors and the role of microbiota in cancer therapy response.
Dr. Hollox has contributed to genomic studies of diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, and mesothelioma, often leveraging large-scale datasets (e.g., UK Biobank). His publications emphasize methodological advances in analyzing structural variants and short tandem repeats, as well as translational applications in personalized medicine (e.g., the Precaries oral care study).
He has advised numerous postgraduate students and collaborates on projects such as the EXCEED cohort for multimorbidity genomics. His work bridges basic genetics, evolutionary biology, and clinical applications, reflecting a commitment to advancing genetic insights for human health.
