Eckhard Kuhn-Osius is an Associate Professor in the German Department at Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY). He is currently on leave for Fall 2024. His research focuses on literary interpretation, with a specialization in Goethe's works (particularly Faust), literary responses to World War I, and the works of Heinrich Böll. He has published over 30 articles and reviews on literary and pedagogical topics.
- Education: PhD from University of Colorado Boulder (dissertation: 'Understanding Literary Texts')
- Teaching Expertise: German language instruction at all levels, with emphasis on advanced learners. Co-author of a three-volume introductory German textbook series used across CUNY institutions.
- Professional Roles: Chair of the AATG Testing Commission (responsible for national German language exams in US high schools), NEH grant collaborator, and oral proficiency tester certified through grant-related training.
- Additional Work: Director of Hunter College's summer study abroad program in Germany, and active in intercultural communication studies through engagement with contemporary German society.
